Dear Mr. Pichai & Mr. Mohan,

On behalf of more than 65 million Americans of Hispanic heritage, our organizations write to express our deep concern over news reports suggesting that your company plans to imminently remove both TelevisaUnivision and Telemundo from YouTube TV. These actions would deny millions of Americans of Hispanic descent, who get their news in Spanish at home, the essential access to reliable and trusted news, emergency information, and culturally meaningful content. That you would choose to take such an action in the middle of Hispanic Heritage Month – a time meant to recognize the many contributions of Latino Americans and to remember and honor that we’re an integral part of the American story – adds insult to injury.

TelevisaUnivision and Telemundo have long served as vital lifelines for Latino American families across our country. Their programming is not merely entertainment — it is a daily source of news, weather alerts, public service information, and cultural connection. Removing these networks from your basic tier, or eliminating them entirely due to unresolved carriage disputes, would disproportionately harm Latino American consumers, many of whom rely on these channels as their primary source of information. At a time when misinformation is rampant and alternative news sources are increasingly polarized, trusted sources like TelevisaUnivision and Telemundo are more critically important than ever.

This disruption is not just inconvenient — it is exclusionary. For many families, the added cost of a separate Spanish-language tier or the loss of these channels altogether is not a minor inconvenience, but a significant burden. It risks exacerbating barriers to news access for communities already underserved by mainstream media.

We are particularly troubled by the timing and broader implications of these decisions. As Bloomberg has reported, YouTube TV is poised to become the largest linear pay-TV provider in the United States. With that scale comes responsibility. The decisions made by Google and YouTube have far-reaching consequences for media access, fairness and opportunity. Unfortunately, your recent pattern of disputes — including significant conflicts with other major networks — suggests a growing willingness to leverage your market power in ways that could undermine consumer choice and disproportionately harm underserved community-serving media.

We urge you to act swiftly to resolve these disputes and to restore and maintain TelevisaUnivision and Telemundo on YouTube TV’s basic tier. Hispanic Americans deserve fair access to the programming that educates, empowers, and tells our stories with authenticity and respect. We stand ready to work with you to ensure that Latino American consumers are not marginalized in the evolving media landscape.

Sincerely,

Rosa Mendoza
